Books Online

December 3, 2003

I’m sure you’ve all heard about Project Gutenberg. I love the idea that so many public domain books are online for everyone.
This week I was pointed to another resource I think worth mention: the World Wide School’s Library. Check it out, find some free reading, enjoy.

World AIDS Day: stop and think

December 1, 2003

Here on World AIDS Day I find myself thinking about nasty diseases. Today my students talked about AIDS, and SARS. As my day is concluding, while thinking of an HIV infected friend and where he is at today, I am also thinking of folks I know living with Hepatitis C.
It’s a […]

Girl Genius

November 29, 2003

This neat comic comes from StudioFoglio.com. Girl Genius volume one focuses on Agatha Clay, student and lab assistant at Transylvanio Polygnostic University. Needless to say, it’s a lot of fun, and great artwork.
Leaves me tempted to order from the StudioFoglio folks.

November 17, 2003

from Wapsi Square
This is another Mon, Wed, Fri comic. I love Paul Taylor’s style. It’s good stuff and he’s great with expressions. What I really like about this strip is that it was my Saturday night, left out at the end of the table.

from Filibustor
I love this editorial strip. It’s out Monday Wednesday Friday, and it’s got a great edge and actually gives you clues to back up what JJ McCullough is talking about.

corruption and colonialism of the english language

November 3, 2003

I’ve had another idea for an article on China based on this observation today. Again, thoughts are very warmly welcome.
China has definitely been invaded by English, and may be the fastest growing English speaking population in the world. It’s becoming more difficult to learn the Chinese language here in China without running into […]
