read and be merry!

Thursday, January 22nd, 2004

It has come to my attention that Ozy and Millie had come out of reruns. Everyone must rejoice and read the comic.

No really, go and read. Don’t make me threaten to come over there with a book of really bad knock knock jokes and recite them endlessly in a Monty Python accent. You won’t like it.

hearty writing and much amusement

Wednesday, January 21st, 2004

I was reading Neil Gaiman’s blog, as has become my habit.

Truly, you must all check out January 20 for a few reasons. One, there is a really cute/funny bit about the tooth fairy. I chuckled and smiled over that.

Moreover, there is also talk about a song called Sinister Ducks, which is very funny, and a free download of said song approved by the original writer. This is very worth the download and resulting amusement.

twisted

I really couldn’t decide where to put this, so I’ll put it here. For anyone who is interested in the amusing/twisted, there is now a Law and Order Coloring Book.

i must like freaks

Wednesday, January 21st, 2004

I was looking through the links that are posted at Underpower, and something that I read long long ago. I read it back when I was at my computer-oriented job. They’ve got newer stuff up since then, making the story that much more fun. Seriously, if you have any sense of humor, you will laugh when you read Return To Sender. I recommend the mailing list, since the updates are really infrequent.

I also took a gander at an interesting strip called Kevin and Kell, and I was amused by the Jan 19th strip.

Victoria Burns

I highly recommend checking out the amazing inkwork at ArTori’s Pen and Ink. The idea of making patchwork pieces like this is really neat. I like her stuff a lot. If only I had $200 to blow on a matted print. *sigh*

omni point of view

Sunday, January 18th, 2004

This has been a bit of a stumbling block for me of late, and will be moreso in a project I’m working on over the next few months. Still, it’s good to hear good tips for writing from the omniscient point of view.

muses and whining

Sunday, January 18th, 2004

domy pointed me to a pretty interesting statement and discussion that I think worth mentioning.

myths: a treatsie on the muse in writing

I found myself agreeing a lot with this idea of higher art vs job being something that gets blown out of proportion. Muse and inspiration gets us part of the way, for sure. On the other hand, you have to back it up with actual skill if you plan to write a a career, because you need to write for profit when it is your job.

Regardless, there are many interesting things to ponder here.

I really like this article from over at WIRED. You should go read it.

’40s comic

Friday, January 16th, 2004

Found this little nugget through boing boing.

It’s possible to read some beautiful 1940s comics online. Sci-fi thriller Planet Planet Comics. Go, click through the fabulous offering and enjoy.

The whole thing reminds me of the American Movie Classics channel, for some reason. Actually, something a little further beyond that. Something I’ve been thinking about for a while.

I’ve changed my MSN screenname of late, as those who chat with me have noticed. It now reads “The Dread Pirate Gamera.” You may laugh and chock it up to a chick with too many screws loose, which I may be. The thing is, when I used to ice skate (and if you know that about me, then you know me too well), the longest ice time would be Saturdays. I would miss most Saturday morning cartoons. This made me really sad, but that’s how it goes.

I did watch Captain Bob before leaving for ice time. I may have been the only regular viewer for the show, but I was up at 5:30AM to watch it and draw right along with him. No websites really talk about the show, there is a limited episodes guide online that shows some episodes I remember, and apparently the show was a 1960s carry over from another show. I still have my sketch from the skunk show.

When I came home from skating and finished a late morning breakfast, it was time for my favorite Saturday activity, watching Creature Double Feature. My favorite shows were always the superhero giant monster shows, and my ultimate favorite was the horribly dubbed Gamera.

Another thing I really like is pirates, and turtles are cute anyway, so why not be a gigantic superhero turtle-pirate? Makes perfect sense to me.

Anyhow, the comic above gives me that warm fuzzy feeling of Saturday’s Creature Double Feature and Friday night’s Movie Macabre with Elvira. I know this all sounds bizarre for me to have been watching when I was a little kid, but these are my fondest, most vivid memories.

Card Captor Sakura

Today, while mucking around, I found a most beautiful Card Captor Sakura wallpapers. You should go and enjoy. It’s very subtle and not too girly or anything to boot.
