when the press seems remiss
Wednesday, March 30th, 2005I think this is an excellent piece and discussion over at Body and Soul. Lots of food for thought there.

Apparently the folks behind Miramax have left Disney, though the Miramax name and library remain with Disney. Does this mean we’ll have a new creative label pop up? Does this mean Disney will lose all semblance of an investment that has an “edge”?
Jef has pointed out another really amusing webcomic. It’s funny because I feel I should have heard of Freefall before, but I really don’t think I have. I highly recommend reading the March 2005 comics, though the archive is quite vast and available for your perusal should you want to invest the time.
I watched Floating on Friday. I like the movie. I suppose this is partly because the main character reminds me of a guy I dated once, and also because the people in the movie get upset in a way that feels really tangible. It doesn’t come off as overly dramatic, it just comes off as raw. I have a bit of a fascination of stories about people who don’t “make it.” Not making it can be a variety of things, not going to school, not being employed, etc… but what happens to a degree is these people become disenfranchised, they become part of a different group all their own, and there are shared traits in that circle.
Xiang has pointed me at another long lived webcomic that I didn’t know about, piled higher and deeper. It is funny and full of grad school wit. It has also been running for several years, so you can entertain yourself endlessly reading the archives.
