through other’s comics. I do this all the time!
I thought it was amazingly amusing while scary at the same time that I have done two of the things listed in XKCD’s recent comic. How about you?
I read this webcomic and had a good long laugh. It fits so well with some of the quirky things my professor has said all semester.
You may wonder if I’ve been reading the same webcomics. Well, here’s my current list of things I check up on regularly:
Today, while reading my normal run of comics, I ran across Rob and Elliot. While flipping through the archives, a total jem came up, showing what Waldo has been up to since all his book-chronicled exploits.
Mucking around on comixpedia today I found a link to this comic.
I really like the style on Battlegate… it’s bold, the colors are well done, and it moves well. I think it’ll be fun to see where it goes (hey, and it’s early yet, so if you start reading now, there’s not much backlog to muck through).
Hot, sexy, violent, and inappropriate. I find these are qualities I like in a comic, though often it doesn’t transcend to screen. While I adore Tank Girl and what it was trying to achieve, it didn’t get there and it sold the comic short.
Not quite so for Sin City. I feel like they worked really hard to get into the grittyness of the comic while staying away from trite butt-kicking girls that seem to be all over the place these days.
I know most of those near and dear to me are not so hot on violence on-screen, but I really liked this. The cinematography was a lot of fun as was the color. The title sequence was well done, immersed in the film rather than a passing piece of script, and the immersion for those unfamiliar with the comic seemed well done. Let’s be clear, this is not one of my top comic reads of all time, but I think it’s definitely worth familiarizing oneself with if there’s an interest in comics.
As for the film… there were lots of people in the film that I really liked, and most importantly I think the film might open doors for some folks to the not-your-Sunday-morning-funnies comics.
Jef has pointed out another really amusing webcomic. It’s funny because I feel I should have heard of Freefall before, but I really don’t think I have. I highly recommend reading the March 2005 comics, though the archive is quite vast and available for your perusal should you want to invest the time.
Xiang has pointed me at another long lived webcomic that I didn’t know about, piled higher and deeper. It is funny and full of grad school wit. It has also been running for several years, so you can entertain yourself endlessly reading the archives.
